If it's been a long time since you were in school, you probably want to start out at the basic math/pre algebra level. It is important you start at the right level, because if you don't understand the basics, math just becomes frustrating and you'll end up not completing the course.
As far as exams go, basic math/pre algebra courses are usually aimed at students studying for the GED (US) or equivalent. Note that in the US, you can study for the test online, but you have to take the actual test at your local adult education centre.
Once you get through that, you should take elementary and intermediate algebra, especially if you're aiming at the CBEST (US) tests, which cover basic math, elementary algebra, geometry and data interpretation.
